Dear Quilters who left in a huff,

As the say, here’s your hat, what’s your hurry.

Seeing you digitally slam the door and leave the BAQS FB page in a huff is a bit like watching one of my children get enraged and stomp off, it effects me not a bit since I am incredibly comfortable that I am in the right and you my dear are just plain wrong.

What I find most amusing is how you wail on about how you “did not come here for politics” and that I should just “stick to quilting” and  you are “SO disappointed in me and the kind of person I have shown myself to be”. Have you EVER read anything else I have ever written?  This is VERY MUCH the sort of person I am.

Wow, just wow.  Is this really were you want to plant your ignorant little flag?  THIS was your line in the sand?

You want to plant your flag on the side of thinking that I am a horrid person because I don’t think we should rip children from their parents, put them in human sized dog cages with only foil emergency blankets, scarce food, no medical care and a great number of other atrocities that I can’t even being to name without weeping?  THIS is where you have decided to part company with me and my little page?

This really is pretty shocking given that there are about a million other reasons you could have hated me and yet you picked the one that honestly makes it clear you lack true compassion, empathy and quite possibly a soul.

Of course we also had to ban a lot of people who said similar things with similar outrage and shock about what sort of page they had clicked “LIKE” on and that was ok as well.

But in case someone needs more I offer a slightly incomplete list of reasons to hate me that are possibly ( but I doubt it) more valid than me thinking that we should treat all humans with respect and dignity.

I use the word “fuck” the same way other people use salt on watermelon, it just makes things better.

I often leave loads of clothes in the washer so long that I have to wash them again… and possibly again.

I am bi-sexual, yep, I am attracted to both men and women but not to those who are assholes.

I don’t like tacos, I know, this is a biggie and I promise I have tried, I just don’t like them. But i do like Fajitas, and that makes no sense.

I believe in a woman’s right to abortion if it is the best choice for her.

I use vintage sheets to back my quilts, yep, call the lynch man!

I am a connoisseur of really expensive vibrators. TOTALLY worth the money, just sayin.

I spend a great deal of my time saving newborn kittens – how awful is that?

I have a really shitty 1/4 inch seam allowance and can’t follow a quilt pattern to save my life.

I am polyamorous – go ahead, look it up, I can wait…. hate me now?

I have been married to the same amazing guy for 22 years, he still rocks my world and we hold hands when we sleep…  seeeeeeeee I am HORRIBLZE

I spend a ton on groceries and ALWAYS forget to use coupons and cook gourmet dinners most nights and show them off on instagram…hate me now.

I am snarky, like once a priest even said that he found me “wickedly funny”… not sure how to take that.

I am loud- master of the honk-laugh

I LIKE pineapple on pizza!

I am an introvert – yep really, if you love me leave me alone.

I opened BAQS so that open-hearted, socially aware people who are all of these or some of these or none of these things above can feel safe and heard and have a place that puts the people before the quilting community which at times can be a rather stifling and judgmental community.  As it says on the page header, we are a frankly progressive quilting community where you don’t have to hold your tongue or hide your (liberal) opinions under your quilt. Can’t be more plain than that!
