BadAss Quilters Society
LIBERAL AF
You are not alone
Being liberal in the quilting world can feel isolating and that is why BadAss Quilters Society exists. We are here to offer social support and community to liberal quilters and crafters who care about living in a world that values diversity and equality.
We believe that Love is Love, Science is Real, Reproductive Rights are Human Rights, Black Lives Matter and being neutral puts you on the side of the oppressor.
We do our best to be the strongest, loudest and best examples of what it means to be good humans living their lives on the left and loving side of history.
If this is you, welcome, you have found your people.
Hi, I am Maddie Kertay, founder of BadAss Quilters Society. I am a liberal AF, human who craves like minded community and does my best to be a supportive bright-light, truth-teller in an industry that favors shutting up, not rocking the boat and for women to stay in their place. I say “fuck that” and if you want to know more click on my About Maddie page for more about what you can expect here.

Sewing with Vintage Sheets
I am a heretic in all senses of the word and especially when it comes to sewing and quilting. For as much as I love new fabric there is nothing like the prints and feel of time worn cotton and for that reason I take great joy in quilting with vintage sheets. This...
Storm Season Sewing Safety- SewTechnical at BAQS
In most of the United States Spring means the return of storm season. As I write this we are under a storm alert serious enough that they have dismissed school and are bussing children back home in preparation for everything from heavy rain to tennis ball sized hail,...
Hell – Yeah and Hats off to Our BadAss Culture
Hats off to all of you who march and sew to the beat of your own drummer. To you who take pride in advocating for or being one of those to fight the status quo from the boardroom to the bedroom to the sewing room. I have a goal for April. I would like to hit 20,000...
From A to Zen by Bethanne Nemesh
As a free motion quilter I think one of the hardest things is to come up with yet another fill stitch that is just right for the quilt I am working on. Lucky for us there are an abundance of fantastic books out there on the topic each laying on yet another creative...
Using the Nato Mount on the Longarm
Sometimes it is the little things. Stuff that just works. You know, a pen that writes without skipping or blobbing. A cleaner that does what it says it will do ( all hail the Mr. Clean Sponge) or on this case a bit of technology assistance that comes to the rescue...
BadAss Gear Round-Up and Social Action Pledge
What a weird winter is was and what a spring it will be! We are getting ready around here for the sweet weather of spring. Freeing the toes from the confines of boots and slipping them into sandals, evenings at the Lake and the planning of summer vacations, let alone...

Hackers Suck
Thursday of last week hackers infiltrated BAQS and took over the website, wreaking havoc and inserting insane gibberish and some not so charming offers for male enhancement products all over the site ( talk about hitting the wrong target audience!).. sadly the...
How More Sleep Might Make You a Better Quilter
You can't pick up a magazine lately without reading an article about the science of sleep and all it can do for us. After decades of the lack of sleep being some sort of ridiculous badge of honor we are rounding back to acknowledging that the human body needs sleep...
