One of the first things I ever sewed with were vintage sheets and I have never lost my love for the colors, the soft but crisp hand and the memories that are stirred up. What makes me extra excited is that my friend Kelly Cole at Vintage Fabric Studio also has a deep passion for sewing with them as well.
So yes, to clear things up, yes you can quilt with sheets. There is a lot of smack-talk out there about it but the truth is if you are willing to lay your body on them every night and they hold up for years if not decades there is no reason you can’t sew with them. Sheets have a tight weave much like batiks but I nave never had a bit of trouble working with them no matter 100% cotton or not. I am in it for the prints! 🙂
Of course these days finding amazing vintage sheets is harder than it once was so for one am tickled to have Vintage Fabric Studio to turn to to fulfill my desires without having to go out on the hunt myself!
Today Kelly has an adorable tutorial/pattern for us as well as a limited number of inspiration bundles for those who have the “wanties” like I do! Click on the photo and it will take you to a printable tutorial that will have you creating Ohio Stars that make the most dreamy Summer quilts ever!
