Was this week hard or what?? I can’t turn on the news without feeling like the very things I cherish are in danger of being eradicated by presidential and legislative pen stokes that have not one bit of support from community I know and love.
Many in the Speakeasy are feeling it as well so at the suggestion of one of our amazing members we are going to be putting our feelings into action through our art!
Take up your needle and thread, riffle through your stash for your most earth friendly colors and let’s make some art!! For the months of June and July we shall be creating and sharing our earth inspired art as we attempt to heal the pains many of us feel as the lack of administrative care and foresight becomes ugly truth right before our eyes.
This is going to be a relaxed and thoughtful effort and we welcome all Speakeasy members who feel called to be part of the event. Create something close to your heart that in some way represents the earth. How you do it is up to you… Size, form and inspiration are totally individual. We do ask that you keep at least a bit of focus on the colors of blue and green but all the other colors you want to add are cool as well… after all rainbows are super cool!
While this will not in any way be a comparative event there will be prizes! I will set up a gallery on this page to share your art work with other Speakeasy members and then everyone who has created and uploaded an image will be in the running for the wonderful prize donated by the designer and Speakeasy member Sarah Maxwell ( check out her fabric and fun here!)… she has been so kind as to have donated a Fat Quarter pack of one of her fabric collections as well as one of her wonderfully colorful Aurifil thread collections as well! <–there is that rainbow thing again!
Gallery will open on July 1st and submission will be taken until the 22nd. We will pick for a winner on the 23 of July. Wishing you, Happy – Healing – Sewing
Ps. if you are a Speakeasy member and have not gotten over to our private FB group yet please drop me a note so I can get you set up over there for even more fun each week! Maddie@badassquilterssociety.com
