From the day I first saw a photo of Julia Child’s peg board wall in an issue of a cooking magazine that my mom read I was smitten with the idea of all those little holes, the little clips and holders and ALL the possibility for organization.

Like many things peg board has come a long way, from plastic and metal finishes to different weights and hole sizes depending on the strength load you need. It is truly a BadAss product with the versatility to go from garage to sewing room with ease.

Then enter Ikea and their Skadis line of alternative peg board, which uses thin pill shaped slots instead of round holes and adds a crazy amount of fantastic low priced accessories that are PERFECT for the sewing room.

I am super excited to be adding it to my own new sewing room at each sewing station and a couple other places that need solutions.

Of course since I can never leave good enough alone I am creating custom frames for the sections to offset them from the wall and dress them up a bit to fit the aesthetic of the new room.

Here is the big bummer part, I have no Skadis, I have no cabinets, or other storage solutions since while I placed my order “early pandemic” according to the ikea website my order is still be processed and while it was scheduled for delivery last week I have heard nothing and Ikea is no longer talking inquiry calls to check on orders. A small thing in view of everything so I am waiting and dreaming patiently until it all gets here.

One way Ikea helps you think about your options is with a planning guide just for the Skadis line. You can get that right HERE- Skadis Planning Guide

No wall room? You can still take advantage of peg board in alternative ways.  I am tickled at how Infectious Stitches used her  Skadis Peg Board for a dead-useful adaptation on her rolling cart!

Of course old-school  board is still available, paints up easy and is as close as your local home improvement store in abundance and also has some amazing options for hooks, holders and hanging storage bins. The best place for the basic hooks is Harbor Freight and for some really cool and unusual things try Wallpeg.com

My best hint is thinking outside the box when it comes to purposes for different peg board accessories. With a little creative thinking there is just about nothing you can’t store on a pegboard!
