BadAss Quilters Community – Launch Day!

A new platform and a new adventure.

There is no getting around the fact that building an online business is not for the faint of heart most especially when you have chosen to be plainspoken when it comes to the inequities of your chosen industry.  For as much as I Iove quilting, sewing, and crafting –  I love people, BadAss advocacy, equity, and safety for LGBTQ and BIOPIC people more, so I combined all of these, tossed in a liberal use of expletives and you have The BadAss Quilters Society.

It has been an amazing 8 years from the first handful of people to now more than 30 thousand self proclaimed BadAss Quilters roaming the earth and with this growth comes growing pains and changes.

These are not changes I take lightly but they are changes that must happen for BAQS to continue as a viable and reliable source of income for me given that I devote 40+ hours a week to keep it up, not to mention plans for a string of national events (Oh COVID, you put the kibosh on those for a while!)

First off – the BAQS website is staying right here and will continue to be FREE.  The Facebook page will still exist with content from here being shared there auto-magically.

What will change is that the new BadAss Quilters Community ( BAQC)  has been created and will be the place for deeper conversations, live feeds, giveaways, special guests and the hang out for the Super-Fans of BAQS.

There is private gateway and a monthly membership fee (there is that making a living thing again!)

There is a lot more to read about the why’s and the hows when you click the link but right now I would like to share with you a sneak peek into why this is going to be amazing and you will want to be part of the fun.

This new community is for BadAss Quilters who want more. This is a BAQS insiders experience, you know, like back stage at Cirque Du Soleil without the sweaty, half-naked bodies.. ok, maybe that was not my best selling point but I think you get my point.

Yes, the new community is off of Facebook for a million reasons, it is password protected (no creepers), and hosted on my personal domain on a platform called Mighty Networks.

It features multiple ways to connect with other BadAss Quilters both online and in real life. You can build a bio that lists as much or as little as you want in order to find other BadAss Quilters near you or to meet when the world lets us get back traveling.

You create the feed that is just right for you by following or unfollowing a wide range of ever growing topics and conversations for both community participation and guided discussions by our Topic Channel Hosts.

There is a 24/7 chat room for you to hang out in as well as a no-spam, less risk way to sell your extra quilting goodies with our Community Garage Sale feature.

Do I expect everyone to join?

Holy hell no! … in fact there were only 500 invitations released and we only expect a certain number of those people to join at this time. Not everyone feels strongly about the value of community. Some people will not have the room in their budgets and others are simply not super-fans and that is ok. So if the community is not for you, no harm done!

For the casual BAQSer the full blog will still be here and the Facebook page will serve to announce all the big BadAss things

As I said this was not the easiest decision and I have written more about it if you click through to explore membership but it was this or fold BAQS entirely and I just think there is too much good to come from having a place progressive quilters can call their own and its value to the industry so we are giving this a whirl!

Memberships are on a monthly basis ($14.99) so the worst that could possibly happen is to cancel after 30 days if the community is not for you.
